Cross Spider

The Cross Spider or Garden Spider, can you see why?

We couldn't identify what it was eating

but when a stick fell in it's web it went right to it

and proceeded to disengage it

then toss it out of it's web.  Very efficient.

  1. How big was it? It reminds me of our garden spiders (yellow and black, with orange and black furry legs), that spin the most beautiful orb webs.

  2. The webs I've seen lately have been rather ragged. This particular cross spider was about one inch long. It took a few tries to get close enough without him scampering back into the bush on the edge of his web to hide. He must have trusted me in the end.
